P Plates - Why you should put them on

  • PDF

Many want to get rid of any type of plates, but it's actually really important that new drivers put P-Plates on their cars when they just pass their test.

Drivers in their first 2 years of driving after passing the test are at high risk! Over a thousand new drivers’ lives are lost each year on UK roads through a road traffic collision. New drivers only make up 7% of the drivers in the UK but have 12% of accidents that cause injury. After the first two years of a driver passing their test, research shows that the probability of having an accident that causes injury is nearly halved.

At the moment displaying P-Plates is not compulsory, but the powers that are sitting in Westminster, are under pressure from those people in brussels (European Commission) to implement a compulsory scheme where all new drivers must display p-plates for the first six month of passing their test. Failure to do so, will result in some sort of penalty for new drivers.

After learners in Great Britain pass their driving test, they may opt to display green P-plates (for probationary) to show their lack of experience; this is entirely voluntary however. Some new drivers use green L plates (the pre-test colour being red), however P-plates are more common. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L-plate

Also when sighting a car with the P-Plates on it, you have to be more careful as these people tend to make some mistakes. So Guys better be careful!!
